Created to provide support to “the least of these” located in St. Joseph, The Crossing Outreach Ministry seeks to improve the life quality of those experiencing homelessness while also enhancing the community environment of downtown businesses.
We are in need of volunteers that will help serve the evening meals for our guests at the shelter. Come by yourself or with a group of 3 or 4 friends to serve a meal, but more importantly to connect with folks who have lost hope and dignity. Just maybe the friendly smile that you bring or an encouraging word that you give will be the one thing will lift their spirits enough to restore that lost hope.

“Every person has in them the capacity to reach another person.” Danny Gach has devoted his retirement to reaching community members experiencing homelessness. During this season of togetherness, we encourage you to reach another person. The Crossing Outreach Ministry - St. Joseph, Mo.
There are many ways for the surrounding community to support the ministry of The Crossing:
The Crossing is a public charity which derives a significant proportion of its revenue from donations from the public, and foundation grants. Because more than one-third of the total support figure is derived from public donations, The Crossing meets the qualifications for a public charity.
The Crossing could not carry out its mission without the commitment of local volunteers. No matter what skills you possess or what amount of time you have in your schedule (no matter how small), The Crossing values your contribution. There are opportunities at The Crossing, as well as at the Emergency Shelter and the Nutrition Center.
The shelter opens every day at 4 pm, 6:30 seven days a week. Volunteers are needed to help with check in, serving meals, and conversation with about 60 men and women. It is ideal for volunteers to start at 3:30 and stay until 7.
2 to 4 people is a great number for that shift, if any one came later and stayed later that would be good also.
